Barcelona Airport to the Costa Brava by bus or train

You can reach the Costa Brava from El Prat without a private vehicle: some towns have a direct coach from the airport, and the train reaches the edge of the coast. Here is an honest picture of each option, and when a transfer makes more sense.

  • Trainto Blanes, Girona and Figueres

By coach

Direct coaches from El Prat

A few towns have a direct coach from the airport. Fares we have seen published, per person: Lloret de Mar from about 14.85 € (around 1 h 30), Calella de Palafrugell from about 27 € (around 2 h 55), Begur from about 24 € (around 3 h 10), and Girona and Figueres from about 23 €. Coaches have fixed daytime timetables and stop in other towns on the way; fares and times change, so check the operator before travelling.

For most other towns there is no direct coach we can confirm: you go into Barcelona first and change at the coach station.

By train

Where the train goes, and where it does not

The coast line along the Maresme ends at Blanes, whose station is outside the town centre. Girona and Figueres have high-speed stations, reached from Sants. The beach towns further north, from Lloret to Cadaqués, have no railway station. From the airport, every train journey to the coast includes a change in Barcelona.

Comparing

When each option makes sense

Coach or train

One or two light travellers, arriving in the daytime, staying near the coach stop or the station, with time to spare.

Private transfer

Families, groups, lots of luggage, late arrivals, or a hotel or villa away from the stops. One vehicle, no changes, door to door.

Doing the sums

Per seat against per vehicle

A coach ticket is per person; a transfer is per vehicle. For one traveller the coach is cheaper; for a family of four or a group, the difference shrinks fast. The price per person calculator on each town page compares the live transfer price, divided between your group, with the coach fare where there is one.

If you go by coach, remember the walk from the bus station to your hotel at the other end. If you land late, read late arrivals at Barcelona Airport first.

Before you book

What your price includes, and the rules in plain words

  • A fixed price, nothing hidden

The price you confirm includes the luggage you book, and it does not change with traffic. Only extras you ask for on the day, such as an extra stop or extra waiting, are agreed with the driver before setting off.

  • Meet and greet at arrivals

Your driver waits in the arrivals hall of Terminal 1 or Terminal 2 with a sign showing your name.

  • Flight tracking

We follow your flight in real time. If it lands early or late, the pick-up moves with it.

  • Free waiting time

60 minutes at the airport, 30 minutes at the cruise port or Sants Station, and 15 minutes at hotels and any other address.

  • Free changes and cancellation

Free with 24 hours’ notice or more, with a full refund. Changes need at least 3 hours’ notice, or 8 hours at weekends, on public holidays and the day before them.

  • Online payment and invoice

You pay securely online when you book, and you receive a VAT invoice in your name or your company’s name.

  • Child seats on request

Tell us the children’s ages when you book and the seats are fitted before pick-up, for a small supplement.

  • Up to 22 passengers per vehicle

From a saloon car to a 22-seat minibus. Larger groups travel in several vehicles that leave at the same time.

Before you travel

Is there a direct bus from Barcelona Airport to Lloret de Mar?

Yes, a coach runs from the airport to Lloret in about an hour and a half, on a daytime timetable. Check the operator for current times.

Can I get to Tossa de Mar by train?

No, Tossa has no station. You would take a train or coach and then a bus.

Is a private transfer worth it for two people?

It depends on your luggage, arrival time and where you stay. Use the price per person calculator to compare.

Does the coach go to Cadaqués?

We cannot confirm a direct coach from the airport. Check the operator; most routes need a change.
